Mysterious Ladder

This code must be done AFTER you move the boulder from the fountain. After that, go right. Then, go back and hold right. As soon as you leave, a ladder magically appears.

Easy Money

After acquiring the Ring of Elf from the Castle 1 Guru, characters are often too impoverished (from buying supplies) to afford the Small Shield in the next village. An easy way to stockpile wares AND have enough money for the shield is to talk to the king right after you get Ring of Elf. The king will give you 1500 gold pieces. Go and purchase what you will need - the Deluge Spell, a dagger and a few (2 or 3) J-keys, making sure that the number of gold pieces you have leftover is divisible by 50. You'll want to spend the rest on Dried Meat (50 gold pieces each). Penniless, go to the king again and he will give you 1500 gold pieces!
