Pause the game, and then hold L2 while pressing the following buttons:

Cheat: Unlock Ships

Some of the ships have passwords for unlocking in the R Gallery, instead of just playing with previous models. Use the codes below to unlock them. (The US and Japanese game codes are different).

Cheat: U.S. Invincibility

This code is for the US version of R-Type Final. Pause the game and hold L2, then press: RIGHT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, L1, UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, L1.

Unlock Hidden Stages

There are three sets of hiddden stages in R-Type F; stage 2, stage 3.5, and the hidden final stages. To unlock the various versions of stage 2, shoot the red or blue capsule on the stage 2 bulb boss. Breaking the red node will make the stage progressively drier on your next play while cracking the blue node will make the stage wetter and colder. There are five versions of stage 2 (stage 2.2 seems to be the default).



To unlock stage 3.5 (an extra stage between stage 3 and stage 4), clear stage 3 "Battleship Raid" with ship #69 "Cross the Rubicon". You may select another ship to clear stage 3.5, but stage 3 must be completed using ship #69.



To unlock the final stages, reach the boss of stage 5 ('Dimension 26'). It will have red and blue armatures that can be destroyed to alter your final stage. Not ddestroying any of the armatures will result in the last boss "Bydo"; breaking any of the blue arms will result in the last boss "R-9 Arrowhead"; breaking any of the red arms will result in the last stage "Whereever".

Hint: Clear Shot

Want a clean shot of your ship in the R-Museum? Press and hold SELECT when viewing a ship to clear out the text. You can still move the view around with the right stick while holding SELECT.
